"For goodness sake, let us be young, because time gets harder to outrun."

Bonjour, mon amis!

I hope everyone enjoyed their New Years Eve. I know I did! I met up with Samantha at Grumpy Doyle's in Reading to meet her new boyfriend, Matt, and watch his band, Good Score, perform. The guys in the band were super sweet, and even let Sam and I join them in performing a few songs (Sam on tambourine, and yours truly giving everyone some much needed cowbell).

Apart from Matt and his bandmates, I also met a few other new people from the area who proved to be remarkable company to ring in 2012 with!

Everyone took a break around quarter-to-midnight to get our complimentary glasses of champagne ready and watch the ball drop on the TVs around the bar. From there, I headed to the Lord Wakefield Hotel overlooking Lake Quannapowitt, where Sam had gotten a room for us to crash for the night.

It was a really laid back and fun night. I enjoyed myself immensely.

Early on New Years Day, I brought Matt and Sam back to Matt's car, which he had left at Grumpy Doyle's for the night. Mike, a chef at the bar whom we had met the night before, had left a note on Matt's car offering us breakfast before the place opened up if we felt so inclined. We took him up on the offer- and he made us absolutely fantastic egg sandwiches with bacon. Om nom nom.

After saying my goodbyes to Sam and Matt, I headed back into Boston to meet up with Sean and Stef to toast the kick-off of the new year per our usual fashion: dinner at The Other Side (which is rumored to be closing soon, much to our dismay) followed by going for a long stroll up and down Newbury Street towards the Common since it was unseasonably warm out for most of the evening.

I had said at the beginning of 2011 that my song for the year was Florence & The Machine's "Dog Days Are Over", and it proved to be an accurate representation to the year that was. This year, I have a feeling my anthem will be "Wetsuit" by none other than The Vaccines. The ultimate "life goes by quickly- so enjoy being young while you can" song, I think it's absolutely beautiful- and serves as a reminder that even though I'm a bit of a workaholic these days, I need to stop and enjoy life, too- and that silly, carefree, foolish fun is completely okay.

I love the video, too- which features a few familiar faces!

If at some point we all succumb
For goodness sake let us be young
Because time gets harder to outrun
And I'm nobody, I'm not done
With a cool cool breeze and dirty knees
I rest on childhood memories
We all got old at breakneck speed
Slow it down, go easy on me
Go easy on me

Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on
Grow your hair out long, come on, come
Put a t-shirt on
Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong

If it's up and after you
What do you suppose that you would do?
You're all whacked out from lack of sleep
You blame it on the friends you keep
You want to do things differently
And do them independently
We all got old at breakneck speed
Slow it down, go easy on me
Go easy on me

Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on
Grow your hair out long, come on, come
Put a t-shirt on
Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong
Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on
Grow your hair out long, come on, come
Put a t-shirt on
Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong

Does holy water make you pure?
Submerged your vision's just obscured
You're a lot like me
In up to our knees
In over your chest is way too deep

Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on
Grow your hair out long, come on, come
Put a t-shirt on
Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong
Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on
Grow your hair out long, come on, come
Put a t-shirt on
Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong
